Fire and Life

Fire and Life (2018)
‘Fire and Life’ was a commission for a private collector. At 2 x 3 metres it’s my largest painting to date. Feb 5 2018 was the big hang. It’s such a rewarding feeling when you see your work in a home knowing it has an emotional connection with the owners.
The photos below chart the painting’s progression, from collecting the frame and stretching the canvas, to seeing the final painting on its wall. There was also a trip to the property, roadside stops to see bushfire regeneration and a visit to Parliament House (while in Canberra for my Finland show) to see Arthur Boyd’s epic bush painting and tapestry, the inspiration for the commissioning of the work.
Painting at this scale was exhilarating and I was given total freedom to experiment and create.
