My painting ‘Romany Latham, Actor, Back to Back Theatre’ has received a Commended Prize in the 2016 Kogarah Art Prize. The finalist exhibition is being held at the Kogarah Library and Cultural Centre, Kogarah Town Square, Belgrave Street, in Sydney, until 3 July 2016.
For one night only, on Friday 6 May 2016 for Geelong After Dark, Metropolis Gallery will preview The Back to Back Theatre Portraits.
I’ve now completed portraits of the six ensemble actors and will be working on the painting of artistic director Bruce Gladwin on the night. View these paintings, along with my sketchbooks and photos from the sittings. I’ll be at Metropolis, 64 Ryrie Street, from 5 – 8 pm.
Two-minutes walk from Metropolis and always a highlight of the annual Geelong After Dark, Back to Back Theatre will be open from 6 – 10 pm. Having created 28 DEMOCRATIC SET films with communities all over the globe, join Back to Back Theatre in the creation of THE DEMOCRATIC SET Geelong.
It’s an honour to be collaborating with the internationally-acclaimed Back to Back Theatre company. From January until mid year, I’ll be painting portraits of the ensemble actors and the artistic director.
The first painting in the series, ‘Sarah Mainwaring, Actor, Back to Back Theatre’, is a Finalist in the Wyndham Art Prize 2016, showing 7 March to 1 May at Wyndham Art Gallery, 177 Watton Street, Werribee, opening 16 March.

My painting ‘Grief’ has won the Best Single Work award in the international contemporary art prize ‘Taboo’. The winner of the Best Project was Ulla Karttunen from Finland. The finalists exhibition is showing at Galleria Poggiali e Forconi in Florence, Italy, until 29 April.
‘Taboo’ called for artworks that spark thoughtful investigation on taboos. The 12 other finalists in ‘Premio Celeste Taboo’ were from Italy, Switzerland, Finland, England, Ireland, South Africa, Singapore and the USA. The show features some incredibly edgy work.
Artist statement for ‘Grief’, a self portrait:
The full and open expression of grief is taboo. The suffering is either hidden behind closed doors or underplayed, an unspoken time limit of social acceptability applies. If the true pain of grief could be visually depicted, this would be its face.
I have three works in the Contemporary Exhibition at the Victorian Artists’ Society. The exhibition runs 19 March to 5 April 2016 at 430 Albert Street, East Melbourne.
‘Greed’ has been selected for the Flesh, Revealing a Passion for Paint (Juried Exhibition) at Verum Ultimum Gallery in Portland. The show with 34 artists opens on 27 February at Verum Ultimum, 3014 NE Ainsworth, Portland, Oregon, USA.
Metropolis Gallery begins every New Year with an eclectic salon show featuring many artists represented at the gallery. A selection of my landscapes and portraits will be available. Metropolis Summer Salon runs from 8 January to 27 February 2016 at 64 Ryrie Street, Geelong.
Two of my paintings ‘Red’ and ‘Woman in the Crowd’ have just travelled over 16,000 km (10,000 miles) from Geelong, Australia, to London, UK, to be part of ‘The Face of January’, a portrait and figurative exhibition being held at Camden Image Gallery. The gallery is located at 174 Royal College Street, Camden, and the show opens 7 January.
‘Red’ was created purely to portray delicate, feminine beauty. The pinks and reds communicate the passion and the ink running and flowing adds to the beauty.
I was interviewed by US site Empty Kingdom, they asked great questions! Check out the interview.
