Selection in the Salon des Refusés 2018

Steve Salo, 7 May 2018

SteveSalo_HistoriaSelfPortrait450I’m honoured that my self-portrait ‘Historia’ has been selected for the Salon des Refusés, the alternative Archibald and Wynne Prize selection.

From the S.H. Ervin Gallery website:
“The Salon des Refusés exhibition at the S.H. Ervin Gallery has established an excellent reputation that rivals the selections of the ‘official’ exhibition with works which examine contemporary art practices, different approaches to portraiture and responses to the landscape.”

‘Historia – Self-portrait’ encapsulates my many years of painting and accumulated history as an artist, with each layer of blobs and clumps of oil paint representing different emotions, experiences, knowledge, sorrow and joy.

The Salon des Refusés 2018 exhibition will be held at the National Trust S.H. Ervin Gallery, 2 Watson Rd, Millers Point on Observatory Hill, The Rocks in Sydney, from 12 May until 29 July.

Steve Salo, Historia – Self-portrait, oil on board, 61 x 56 cm. SOLD
